Music
W.P. Wagner's highly successful music program is a great representation of our school. Our music program offers something for everyone and for all abilities. Our students have the opportunity to choose a music stream that complements their studies in academics. Our program is focused on developing skills and giving our students the opportunity to explore a wide variety of musical styles and genres. W.P. Wagner music students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular and co-curricular music ensembles and take advantage of music enrichment opportunities within Edmonton Public Schools and in the music community at large.
Instrumental Music 10, 20 and 30 explore theoretical knowledge and provide a historical survey, with an emphasis on high-quality performance. This course also gives students the opportunity to participate in music camps, tours and festivals.
Jazz Band 15, 25 and 35 offer a performance-based study of jazz from its creation to current day trends. These courses give students an introduction to improvisation skills, theoretical knowledge and practical applications of the creative process. Students will have the opportunity to perform in a traditional big band and a small combo.
Symphonic Band 15, 25 and 35 offer a music enrichment opportunity for students in Grades 10 to 12 who prepare for festivals and a tour outside of the regular time-table. Students will enhance their study of music through preparation of a repertoire designed to challenge their skills beyond what they learn in Instrumental Music.
