Message from the Principal
Dear W. P. Wagner Families:
Welcome to our new school year! I began as principal at Wagner last year, so with one year behind me, I’m excited to start fresh with a greater understanding of the school and its culture.
It’s been a busy summer at our school. As usual, we had a great group of students and teachers involved in summer school courses and our custodial and support staff have been busy preparing for the new year. As well this summer, we’ve had a lot of construction going on. As a result, we will have an additional 6 classrooms available for use. We have also had new classroom projectors installed in 20 classrooms in need. Two hundred new long lockers have also been ordered, which we hope will arrive and be installed very shortly.
This year our assistant principals will be assigned to alpha groups across the three grade levels. Students with last names starting with A – G will work with Mrs. Fraser. Students with last names from H – O will work with Mrs. Empson, and students with last names from P – Z will work with Mrs. Burrows. Students and parents requiring support beyond that of classroom teachers, should contact their assistant principal.
We have had very little staff turn over from last year. We will have however, a new counselor, Ms. Nussey, joining our team in Student Services. Her expertise and credentials, including a Masters of Counseling Degree, will add some fabulous support for our staff and students.
We are very excited that some of our staff, who were on probationary and temporary contracts last year, will be back with us again this year. Congratulations to Mr. Kruse and Mr. Panas who were granted continuing contracts, and to Mr. Wasmuth, Mr. Harline, Mr. Hirjee, and Ms. Stowe who were all granted probationary contracts. We’re so glad they are all able to remain with us. Between now and the beginning of the school year, we will also confirm staffing for several positions that will be open due to staff members being off on maternity leave. We will also be looking to provide additional support in our Interactions Program, which provides programming for our students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, through the addition of another educational assistant.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite all parents to attend our School Council meetings. These meetings are held every second month and are a great way to learn about our school and show support for the education of our students. Our first meeting this year will be held on Wednesday, September 20 in our school library. Parents can also keep up to date on school events and access valuable information about student attendance and achievement through SchoolZone. Please contact our school office if you have trouble logging in or if you are new to the District and do not have a password.
We’re looking forward to another fabulous year! See you all soon!
