Message from the Principal
Dear W. P. Wagner Families:
Welcome to our new school year! I hope that you have all had a wonderful summer and that our students are ready to get back to classes. This newsletter will provide you with information to help us all get the year off to a great start. Included are details related to registration, school fees, school photos, student rights and responsibilities and important dates that you should be aware of.
It’s been a busy summer at our school. As usual, we had a great group of students involved in summer school courses and our custodial and support staff have been busy preparing for the new year. We’ve had new front doors installed and renovations to our library and STEAM room are well underway.
Our assistant principals and administrative assistants are assigned to work with alpha groups. Students with last names starting with A – K will work with Mr. Tran and Mr. Fowler and their administrative assistant Mrs. Krysko. Students with last names from L – Z will work with Mrs. Burrows and a new assistant principal who we will be selecting in August and their administrative assistant, Mrs. Howlett. Students and parents requiring support beyond that of their classroom teachers, should contact their assistant principal.
We have some excellent new staff joining our team this year:
Mr. Kevin McMaster, Mr. Andrew Kirk, and Ms. Bhav Padem will be joining our Science team;
Mrs. Barb Fouts-Melnychuk will be joining our English and Social Studies Departments;
Ms. Susan Badger and Ms. Devon Bryce will be joining our English Department;
Ms. Ashley Balisky will be joining our Fine Arts Department teaching Drama.
We are very excited that some of our staff, who were on probationary contracts last year, have been granted continuing contracts with the District and will be back with us again this year. Congratulations to Ms. Persad, Ms. Weibe, Mr. Nozack, and Mr. Rai. Ms. McDiarmid, Mrs. Travis, and Ms. Weir will also be able to stay with us for next year.
I would like to invite all parents to attend our School Council meetings which are held every second month. Attending these meetings is a great way to learn about our school and show support for the education of our students. Our first meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 pm downstairs in our Success Centre.
Parents can also keep up to date on school events and access information about student attendance and achievement through SchoolZone. Please contact our school office if you have trouble logging in or if you are new to the District and do not have a password yet.
